MCL closes Bloomington location

Indianapolis, IN, June 24, 2008--MCL Restaruant & Bakery announced that it will be closing its location at 2100 Liberty Drive in West Bloomington, Indiana as of Monday, July 14 after serving the Bloomington community for 38 years.

MCL moved from College Mall to its current Liberty Drive location in March 2004.  The location includes a 400-person ballroom, which MCL operated under The Mayfields Ballroom name.  "We felt at the time that the ballroom and catering business had the potential to supplement sales at the restaurant and make the location very lucrative," stated Jesse Feil, Chief Operations Officer for MCL.  "Our ballroom and catering sales grew substantially every year, but in the end it wasn't enough to cover the significant costs of operating a 44,000 square foot building."

"Closing a location is always a tough decision," said Chairman Craig McGaughey.  "However, we have to do what is right for the organization as a whole.  Financially we are a healthier company without the costs associated with operating a building of Bloomington's size.  This frees up resources and gives us the opportunity to focus on opening new stores and reinvesting in existing restaurants."

McGaughey believes the closing will also help the entire MCL chain continue its otherwise strong performance.  "MCL Restaurant & Bakery consistently outperforms the industry average.  We continue to experiment with new flavors and introduce new products.  Our newest menu offering, Grilled Chicken Bruschetta, broke company sales records when it was introduced.  We are looking forward to continuing to grow the company and serve the Midwest as we have for over 50 years."

MCL will be contacting The Mayfields Ballroom customers who have events scheduled for dates after the store's closure.  The company will make arrangements with customers to extend the ballroom's operations for those who cannot find an alternate location for their event.
